The most notable of his work is considered to be his first short story - ‘Boule de Suif’. His volumes of short stories were heavily influential, with one of them acting as inspiration for John Ford’s ‘Stagecoach’.

Écrivain français, Guy de Maupassant est né à Tourville-sur-Arques (Seine-Maritime) le 5 août 1850. Il est l'auteur de très nombreuses nouvelles et romans à succès dont Boule de Suif,La Maison Tellier, Mademoiselle Fifi , Une vie, Les Contes de la bécasse, Les Sœurs Rondoli, Les Contes du jour et de la nuit (1885), Bel-Ami, La Main gauche (1889), etc. Atteint de troubles nerveux, il le 6 juillet 1893, à l'âge de 42 ans.
