Alexandre Dumas (1802-1870). D'abord clerc de notaire, puis commis au secrétariat du duc d'Orléans, il devint l'écrivain le plus fertile et le plus lu de son temps. Aidé de plusieurs collaborateurs, il publia près de 300 ouvrages dont certains, tel Les trois mousquetaires, sont encore aujourd'hui aussi populaires que de son vivant. Il eut une vie brillante et fastueuse, fut directeur de théâtre, fonda des journaux éphémères et, malgré des gains fabuleux, se trouva ruiné à la fin de sa vie.
