René Guénon (1886–1951) was a pioneering French metaphysician, philosopher, and esotericist whose writings bridged Eastern and Western spiritual traditions. A leading voice in the Traditionalist School, Guénon sought to restore timeless metaphysical principles amid the disorientation of the modern world. His works explore symbolism, initiation, sacred knowledge, and the unity underlying all authentic spiritual paths. After relocating to Egypt in 1930, he embraced Sufism and lived the remainder of his life in Cairo, deepening his engagement with Islamic mysticism. Today, Guénon remains a key influence on scholars, seekers, and spiritual thinkers worldwide.

    Né à Blois en novembre 1886, René Guénon s'installe à Paris en 1904, afin de préparer les concours aux grandes écoles en mathématiques spéciales. Parallèlement, il s'intéresse aux mouvements occultistes de toutes sortes qui fleurissent à cette époque dans la capitale. L'année de son mariage, en 1912, il est reçu en maçonnerie à la Grande Loge de France, puis, en islam, est initié au soufisme et prend le nom d'Abdel Wahid Yahia, 'le Serviteur de l'Unique'. Titulaire en 1916 d'un diplôme d'études supérieures de philosophie consacré à Leibniz et au calcul infinitésimal, il fréquente Jacques Maritain et les milieux thomistes. Il voua alors sa vie à la seule quête de la Connaissance ou Somme métaphysique traditionnelle, dénonce les errements des religions occultistes, collabore à de nombreuses publications consacrée à la Science cachée, particulièrement, dès 1925, à la revue Le Voile d'Isis, qui devient bientôt Études traditionnelles. En 1928, à la mort de sa femme, il quitte Paris, puis l'Europe, pour s'installer définitivement en terre d'Islam. Il vit au Caire à partir de 1930, épouse la fille d'un cheikh en 1934. Il s'attelle à la dénonciation systématique de la rupture opérée par le monde occidental depuis la fin du Moyen Âge avec l'inspiration spirituelle qui doit commander à l'organisation religieuse et sociale : il publie Orient et Occident, qui fixe les conditions de la reconstitution d'une véritable élite (1924), puis La crise du monde moderne, Le roi du monde (1927) et Autorité spirituelle et pouvoir temporel. Il meurt le 7 janvier 1951. Il est l'auteur de vingt-six ouvrages et de trois cent cinquante articles qui formeront la matière de dix volumes.
