When Mr. Earnshaw, master of Wuthering Heights, returns from a trip with an unkempt orphan in tow, he announces that the child, Heathcliff, is now a member of the family. While young Catherine Earnshaw becomes close with Heathcliff, her older brother, Hindley, sinks into bitter resentment. Fille de pasteur anglican, Emily Brontë (1818-1848) est une poétesse et romancière britannique. Elle passe sa jeunesse au presbytère avec son frère et ses deux soeurs, Anne et Charlotte. Les trois soeurs publient ensemble un recueil de poèmes avant d'écrire chacune des romans. Wuthering Heights (Les Hauts de Hurlevent), l'unique roman d'Emily, est considéré comme un chef-d'oeuvre de la littérature anglaise.
